Mentor Profiles

These Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EiRs), employed by entrepreneurship@UBC, are accomplished entrepreneurs who have built and exited at least one ground-breaking venture. They are assigned mentoring responsibility across a portfolio of UBC ventures at the discretion of entrepreneurship@UBC staff, and ensure accountability within the venture teams. Here we provide profiles of several EiRs with technological expertise.

Francis Steiner

Francis has shepherded multiple startups through growth in the last 15 years.  He is a former strategy consultant focused on new markets and products at Deloitte’s Braxton Associates and PwC’s Strategy Group. Francis is currently Entrepreneur-in-Residence at HATCH, UBC’s new technology startup incubator. Read more about Francis here.

Jenny Yang

Jenny Yang

Jenny was the co-founder and founding CEO of Metafor Software which was acquired by Splunk (NASDAQ: SPLK) in 2015.  Prior to Metafor, Jenny was at BDC Venture Capital where she led and managed BDC’s investments in early stage companies such as Bycast (acquired by NetApp) and OctigaBay (acquired by CRAY). Prior to becoming a VC, Jenny was a consultant with The Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Co.  Jenny began her career as an engineer at Telus and Nortel. See Jenny’s LinkedIn profile for more information.

Tom Urban

Tom Urban has mentored early stage ventures as an advisor and investor. He has extensive experience in investment banking, working for Goldman, Sachs & Co. as well as in the agricultural biotechnology industry and forestry genetics. See Tom’s LinkedIn profile for his full bio.

Vikram Devdas

Amiele Lake

Amiele Lake founded Tagga Media, a customer data platform designed to help large brands better understand their customers. In 2017, Tagga was successfully acquired by Campaign Monitor. Amielle is also an advocate for female entrepreneurship, currently sitting on the board of the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs. See Amiele’s LinkedIn profile for more information.
